Lagos Council to spend €15 million building council houses

lagoscrestLagos Council is aware of the high number of locals that can not afford to rent accommodation from the private sector.

The Council also is aware that there is a distinct lack of council houses available for lower income families so has decided to set aside €15 million to build some council houses.

The new housing programme has been approved and 195 new council properties will be built over the next three years.

The Council’s plan is to, “give an objective response to the population’s need for housing and promotes a balance between supply and demand.”

The executive is well aware that, “the deregulated accommodation market lacks solutions for a wide range of households that do not have sufficient income to rent privately.”

This situation has created an increasing demand for council accommodation that does not exist.
