Lagoa replaces municipal diesel vehicles with electric vehicles

LAGOA REPLACES MUNICIPAL DIESEL VEHICLES WITH ELECTRIC VEHICLESOn Monday this week,  the municipality of Lagoa introduced 17 new electric vehicles in to circulation, to support its various municipal services.

The arrival of these vehicles allows the Municipality of Lagoa to renew its fleet and start removing cars that are exhausted and less environmentally friendly, in an investment that includes the exchange of diesel cars for electric vehicles at a cost of around 335 thousand euros, with the participation of the Environmental Fund.

The new vehicles are being rented, rathern than bought, which allows the municipality to avoid having to make a great financial effort to acquire them, to have no maintenance costs and to be able to replace them, after three years, “Something that is very important in electric vehicles, since they are constantly evolving”.

The initiative constitutes another step in the project “Lagoa, Cidade Sustentável” (Lagoa, Sustainable City), which runs throughout 2020 and 2021. In the near future, the municipality’s fleet of light vehicles will consist only of environmentally friendly vehicles.

According to Luís Encarnação, Mayor, “this is one of the biggest challenges we face. It requires strategic concentration on a triple objective: economically effective, socially equitable and ecologically sustainable development”.
