LAGOA: NEW FREE COVID TESTING CENTRE FOR THE COMMUNITYThe Municipality of Lagoa have reinforced their testing facility with a new Testing Centre at the Fatacil opening today, in addition to a 6 month extension of the free tests available at pharmacies, and reinforcement of the Red Cross teams testing in the school community.

The Testing Centre at the Fatacil is free of charge for the public, and opens today, January 7th 2022. It allows one test per week per person, by appointment booked online HERE.

Initially, the centre will only be open on Friday afternoons but may, if necessary, have opening hours extended if demand is high.

In addition to the testing centre, the Municipality of Lagoa is preparing to extend the protocol it has with the National Association of Pharmacies for another 6 months, that will allow the residents of Lagoa and the Municipality’s employees to continue to perform four free tests per month (one per week) at participating pharmacies (Lagoa Pharmacy, Maceta Pharmacy and Ferragudo Pharmacy).

The municipality of Lagoa already has reinforced testing of the school community, through rapid tests carried out by the Red Cross, at the Testing Centre located in the premises of the former hospital in Lagoa, which eases the load of the National Health System. This centre also performs PCR tests whenever a Lagoa citizen is has been in contact with someone with Covid, or is suspected to be infected.

Mayor of Lagoa, Luís Encarnação said “It was extremely important to reinforce testing in the municipality, at a time when our children and young people are going to return to school and the period of containment decreed by the government will end. We have to join forces to mitigate the effects of the pandemic in order to prepare for the high season period and safeguard our economy.”
