The Institute of Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) has signed 26 agreements with 25 municipalities, for the accommodation of 15 thousand families, the Government announced yesterday.
According to the office of the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, the collaboration agreements, signed with 25 municipalities and with a municipal company in Évora, “will allow for a dignified housing response to about 15 thousand families”.
In these 25 municipalities, Local Housing Strategies (ELH) are underway, which already account for 178 houses ready and delivered to families, for a total of 17 million euros.
The ministry stressed that the total investment approved so far in these agreements is 710.6 million Euros, of which 274.5 million is non-repayable and 275.7 million using a soft loan from the IHRU.
Among the signed agreements, 57% foresee cases of rehabilitation, 20% for construction, 22% for acquisition (the majority for later rehabilitation) and 1% for leasing by municipalities for subletting.
The ministry added that there are still 10 other Local Housing Strategies, whose agreements with the respective municipalities are expected to be signed soon, bringing the total number of families covered to 29 thousand.
Another 30 Local Housing Strategies, already delivered by the municipalities to the IHRU, are in the process of being evaluated by the institute and another 158 are in the process of being prepared.
The municipalities that have already signed agreements with the IHRU are Arruda dos Vinhos, Lisbon, Almada, Oeiras, Matosinhos, Évora, Loulé , Lousada, Porto, Funchal, Alijó, Walls, Torre de Moncorvo, Marvão, São João da Madeira, Mafra, Mirandela , Ribeira de Pena, Espinho, Idanha-a-Nova, Grândola, Alcanena, Silves , Viseu and Setúbal.
The 1st Law program aims to find housing solutions for the most deprived families and without a housing alternative, foreseeing a total investment of 700 million Euros by 2024 in non-reimbursable contributions.
