GNR officer hit by car after driver disobeyed orders in Albergaria-a-Velha

GNR hitA GNR officer was hit by a vehicle today when the driver disobeyed orders that prevented him from accessing an area of Albergaria-a-Velha where a fire was spreading, a source said.

According to a source from the GNR, the officer was left with minor injuries and will be sent to the medical post in Albergaria-a-Velha, or Aveiro hospital.

The incident took place in Assilhó, where the Albergaria-a-Velha and Águeda firefighting operations station is located in the Aveiro district.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver did not comply with the officer’s orders prohibitng access to the fire zones, and advanced in his vehicle anyway, despite the GNR officer shouting for him to stop.

According to the official website of Civil Protection forces, consulted by Lusa at 16:10, the fire that started on Thursday morning in the town of Paus, in Albergaria-a-Velha, mobilized 377 operatives, supported by 109 vehicles and nine air assets.
