A German tourist, about 50 years old, was rescued from the sea off Bordeira beach in Aljezur but died a few hours after being admitted to Lagos hospital.
According to the captain of the Port of Lagos, Conceição Duarte, the man was rescued from the sea after an alert had been received at 1:30 pm by his family.
The National Maritime Authority reported that the man had been in the sea for about 20 minutes without being spotted and eventually was located and taken to shore by the Amarok rescuer swimmers.
On-site resuscitation maneuvers were performed but the victim was in critical condition when taken to hospital where later he died.
