FICTITIOUS A22 ROAD ACCIDENT WILL TEST ALGARVE EMERGENCY SERVICE PROCEDURES - Photo by https://barlavento.sapo.pt/The Civil Protection of the Algarve will stage a fictitious serious road accident this afternoon (March 18th), between 3 pm and 6 pm on the Via do Infante (A22) between Lagoa and Portimão.

The road accident scenario, involving several passenger vehicles, will simulate an exceptional situation with multiple victims on the A22 motorway, on the bridge over the River Arade, between the municipalities of Lagoa and Portimão.

With the objective of testing the Prior Intervention Plan (PPI) of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANPEC) for the most important road infrastructure in the region, this exercise will involve the Civil Protection Agents (APC) and other Cooperating Entities (EC) as part of the the Algarve’s Integrated Protection and Relief Operations Device (DIOPS).

The event combines the opportunity to assess procedures from the first alarm to the Fire Departments and the National Institute of Medical Emergency, supported by the automatic response plan and, at the same time, the procedures of the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR).

The exercise, which takes the name “VIA_I_LIVEX ?22”, will be conducted by ANEPC’s Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Algarve and will have the support of the Municipal Civil Protection Services of Lagoa and Portimão, which are also taking the opportunity to test the procedures established in the Region within the scope of support and maintenance of civil protection and relief operations.
