At 07:08 (local time) this Wednesday morning, an earthquake of magnitude 3.6 (Richter) was registered at the stations of the Mainland Seismic Network, with an epicentre located about 60km south of Olhão.
“This earthquake, according to the information available so far, did not cause personal or material damage and was felt with maximum intensity III (modified Mercalli scale) in the municipality of Tavira (Faro). It was even felt with less intensity in the municipality of Olhão (Faro)”, says the IPMA statement.
The IPMA also reports that “the location of an earthquake’s epicentre is a complex physical and mathematical process that depends on the dataset, algorithms and propagation models of seismic waves. Different agencies can produce slightly different results. preliminary determinations are usually corrected later, by adding more information.”
