Consumer watchdog, DECO, has linked up with Olhão Council in offering a free service to inform locals of the consumer rights, choose energy suppliers and how to deal with aggressive salespeople.
The initiative is a partnership between the Council and DECO and a series of sessions will run until October in the municipal library.
The next session about consumer rights will take place on March 25th at 3:00 p.m. when the public can find out how to make the best choices of products and services on the market and how to make complaints and assert their rights.
On April 16th at 3:00 p.m., the topic is health and related consumer rights concerning the right to medical information, appropriate health care, the right to health for children and cancer patients, and the fee structure.
In May 22nd at 3:00 p.m., on National Energy Day, there will be a workshop on energy suppliers, how to save money on energy bills and how to choose the most energy-efficient equipment.
Registration for these and other sessions until October, is free and essential at [email protected]
One civil right, the one concerning privacy, is being edged aside in Olhão as the council prepares to spend over €60,00 on CCTV systems to observe key city streets and those using them.
The Council is to install 24 cameras in three of the most frequented arteries of Olhão: the Avenida 5 de Outubro, Avenida da República, and Rua do Comércio.
Three further Algarve Councils, Portimão, Faro and Albufeira, also intend to install CTV equipment in some public spaces in order “to guarantee greater security to residents and tourists.”
