Covid-19: A Decrease In Cases In The Algarve

Dr Photo - COVID-19: A DECREASE IN CASES IN THE ALGARVEPortugal registered 90 deaths related to Covid-19 yesterday and 1,303 new cases of infection, according to the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).

The DGS epidemiological bulletin also reveals that 4,832 patients are hospitalised, six more than on Sunday, of which 784 are in intensive care.

The death toll is the lowest since January 5th, with 90 people dying with Covid-19.

The data also indicates that 3,538 people were reported as recovered, bringing the total number of recovered to 668,854 since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal, in March 2020.

For 15 consecutive days, the number of recovered patients exceeds that of new infections.

Active cases in Portugal also registered a decrease. There are 102,794 people with the active virus, 2,325 fewer compared to Sunday.

Since March 2020, Portugal has recorded 15,411 deaths associated with Covid-19 and 787,059 cases of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Health authorities have 131,521 contacts under surveillance, 7,881 fewer than the previous day. This indicator has also recorded a consistent decline since January 30th.

The bulletin also reveals that among the 90 deaths is a woman between 20 and 29 years old. Since the beginning of the pandemic, 11 people of this age group have died.

Still regarding deaths registered in the last 24 hours, 48 ??occurred in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, 18 in the North region, 15 in the Center region, three in Alentejo and six in the Algarve region.

In the region of Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 779 new infections were reported, with 296,210 cases and 6,335 deaths so far.

Lisbon and Vale do Tejo hold 53.3% of deaths registered in the last 24 hours and 59.7% of new infections.

The North region today has 288 new infections by SARS-CoV-2 and since the beginning of the pandemic it has already counted 322,105 cases of infection and 5,050 deaths.

In the Center region, 98 more cases were registered, with 112,394 infections and 2,745 deaths.

In Alentejo, 70 more cases were reported, totaling 27,787 infections and 888 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic in Portugal.

The Algarve region reported 30 new cases yesterday, totaling 19,398 infections and 306 deaths.

Madeira registered 38 new cases. This autonomous region accounts for 5,494 infections and 59 deaths due to Covid-19.

The Autonomous Region of the Azores has not registered any new cases in the last 24 hours. Since the beginning of the pandemic, this region has reported 3,671 cases of infection and 28 deaths.

Confirmed cases are distributed across all age groups, with the highest number of infections between 20 and 59 years of age.

The new coronavirus has already infected at least 355,687 men and 431,110 women in Portugal, refer to DGS data, according to which there are 262 cases of unknown sex, which are under investigation, since these data are not provided automatically.

Of the total fatalities, 8,041 were men and 7,370 women.

The largest number of deaths continues to be concentrated in the elderly over 80 years old, followed by the age group between 70 and 79 years old.

Of the total 15,411 deaths, 10,279 were people over 80 years old, 3,250 aged between 70 and 79 years old and 1,334 were between 60 and 69 years old.

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,400,543 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 108.7 million cases of infection, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
