Algarve reporting 13 total cases of Covid-19, with 331 nationwide

covid count algarveThe number of confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the Algarve rose today to 13, and to 331 throughout Portugal. This means that there has been an increase of three cases in the Algarve and 86 in the country since yesterday.Of the 331 diagnosed individuals confirmed at a national level, just over a third, 139 are hospitalized, 18 of which are in intensive care, according to the public health bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health.

On a positive note, there have already been 3 people who have been discharged from hospital following recovery from the virus since it arrived in Portugal within the past few days.

The report also reveals that there are 2908 suspected cases, and 374 people waiting for laboratory results. As of today, there are also 4592 people at-risk individuals under surveillance by health authorities.

In regional terms, both the Alentejo and Madeira have benefited from a low population density, remaining without a confirmed case. Lisbon remains the most affected region (142 cases).

Two of the new Algarve diagnoses are reported to have been a couple living in the parish of Algoz, in Silves. The woman’s diagnoses was reported by regional news agency Sul Informação early yesterday morning, after contacting an official source in Silves Council. This is a Portuguese lady, who was infected with Covid-19 on a recent trip abroad, together with her husband, who is the other case which was announced today.

Also confirmed was the case of a Nepalese farm worker in Faro, which led to 74 other Nepalese colleagues being quarantined at a school in Faro. Here, there are reports that there may be more who were infected through both personal and professional contact.
