Dr Photo - ALGARVE HOSPITAL PERFORMS PIONEERING SURGERY TO TREAT HAEMORRHOIDSThe Lusíadas Albufeira Hospital is the first, and currently only, unit in the Algarve to offer a new technique that has revolutionised the treatment of hemorrhoidal disease, an innovative laser surgery for the treatment of hemorrhoids, otherwise known as piles.

The hospital unit has become a pioneer, in the Algarve region, in the use of this technique that has proven to be effective and guarantees a practically painless post-operative and an early return to normal life.

With a notable increase in the general population, hemorrhoidal disease is, in many cases, has a huge effect on the quality of life of those who suffer from it.

Surgeon Eduardo Xavier reveals that “surgery in the treatment of haemorrhoids is generally very feared because it is synonymous with a violent post-op pain, painful recovery and the possibility of serious complications. These fears lead many patients to refuse surgical treatment, preferring to continue suffering. Fortunately, and thanks to this new procedure, this scenario does not have to be a reality and has, in fact, changed the lives of these people”.

“The use of lasers in hemorrhoid surgery is a technique which is very effective, with excellent results and which, in addition to not requiring hospitalisation, guarantees an almost painless post-operative period without the need for dressings or other care after the intervention. This solution allows patients to return to normal life quickly and easily ”, adds the specialist.

From the experience already obtained, Eduardo Xavier states that “this innovative procedure has revealed excellent results and a great degree of satisfaction witnessed by the patients already operated on. And, although it is performed under anesthesia, as a rule, the procedure does not require hospitalisation, the hospital stay is limited to just a few hours ”, he concludes.
