Several injured in Portuguese rail crash

Several people were injured when two trains collided Wednesday at a station close to the capital Lisbon, the Portuguese rail and rescue services said.

“At this point, the information we have is that there have been only slight injuries,” Portuguese rail spokeswoman Ana Portela told local media, without specifying the number of people hurt.

The “collision between two trains” took place at the Caxias station shortly after 2:00 pm (1300 GMT), said the civil protection service on its website.

According to Lusa news agency, a train ran into another which was stationary.
