Portuguese national among Morocco bomb victims

A young Portuguese man was among the 16 people killed in Thursday's bomb attack in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh, the government confirmed here Sunday.

“A young Portuguese citizen was the victim of the brutal attack in Marrakesh,” foreign ministry official Antonio Braga said in a statement sent to the Lusa news agency.

Friday, a medical source told AFP that a Portuguese national was among the fatalities in the Marrakesh cafe bombing, however this had not been confirmed.

Moroccan Interior Minister Taeb Cherkaoui also then said seven French nationals, two Canadians, two Moroccans, a Dutch national and a British national, were also killed in the blast.

And he pointed to signs Al-Qaeda could be behind the attack.
