Interpol updates notice on missing British girl Madeleine

Global police agency Interpol updated its missing persons notice on British child Madeleine McCann on Friday, after Scotland Yard issued a computer-generated image of how she might look now.

McCann disappeared from a room in a holiday resort in Portugal on May 3, 2007 while her parents dined with friends nearby, and has not been seen since despite instense investigations by Portuguese and British police.

Last month, British investigators issued a new “age-progressed” picture in which the former toddler’s features are updated in an approximation of how she might look now. If she is alive, she will turn nine on Saturday.

The new picture has now been attached to the “Yellow Notice” which Interpol has circulated to police around the world asking them to be on the look-out.

Interpol, which coordinates the work of international forces, said: “Yellow Notices are circulated to help locate missing persons, especially minors, or to help identify persons who are not able to identify themselves.

“Anyone who has any information regarding this case is asked to contact their local police or the authorities in Portugal,” it added.

McCann’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann said last week they were still hopeful of finding their daughter and urged Portuguese authorities to re-open their investigation after “new information” came to light.

Madeleine’s father stressed that new information had emerged since British police began an investigative review last year and insisted that “the chances of finding Madeleine have increased”.

Scotland Yard said last month a review had unearthed 195 “investigative opportunities” in the evidence surrounding the disappearance, but Portuguese authorities insist none of these leads justify a renewed judicial probe.
