Five missing after fishing boat capsizes off Portugal

Rescuers were searching Wednesday for five fishermen missing after their boat capsized in rough seas off Portugal’s Atlantic coast, rescue services said.

One of the six crew members was in stable condition in hospital after swimming from the wreck to a beach, fire service spokesman Luis Rector said.

He said rescue services had not yet found the 11-metre (36-foot) fishing boat, which the survivor said had capsized near Macas beach in the Sintra area northwest of Lisbon.

A rescue helicopter, a Portuguese navy ship and two other rescue boats were sent to search for the missing vessel, emergency services said.
