Ammunition factory explosion in Portugal kills one

An explosion in a factory in central Portugal producing ammunition for hunting and sporting rifles on Wednesday killed one person and seriously injured two others, emergency services said.

A fireman responding to the blast was also slightly hurt, the head of the regional civil protection service, Sergio Gomes, told AFP.

The cause of the explosion in the factory, near the town of Leiria, was not determined.

Up to seven people work regularly at the facility but some of them were outside the building when the blast occurred, Gomes said.
