A Criminal Investigation team from Loulé's GNR has nabbed a 29-year-old man suspected of at least nine burglaries.

The arrest on Wednesday in Quarteira should end a spate of thefts from shops in the area.

The GNR issued a statement that, “as part of an investigation started in February this year by the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Loulé, related to thefts from commercial establishments and offices, an arrest warrant was issued.

“A house search warrant was actioned and more than 200 gem stones, five mobile phones, a tablet and a replica revolver were seized.”

The detainee is suspected of stealing €50,000 worth of items and was whisked off to court where the judge decided that he should be held in prison until his trial date.
