Former Aljezur mayor gets new job

AmarelinhoThe former mayor of Aljezur, José Amarelinho, has secured the newly-created position as secretary general of the Terras do Infante Association of Municipalities.

This association is a partnership of eastern Algarve councils, Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur, with Amarelinho’s appointment marking the first time the organisation has had a dedicated leader.

The former mayor will take up his new role on June 1st, after a board decision.

The Terras do Infante association intends, with the new appointment, “to give a new impetus to the work it has been developing, but above all to the future work to be developed and extended, which will include ties to health, education and professional training, environment, nature conservation, natural resources, security and civil protection, tourism, culture, sport and youth, among others.”

In clear support of its objectives, Terras do Infante, has appointed Amarelinho, “given his profile, experience and knowledge.”

The former mayor of Aljezur, who had to stand down after the failure of multiple appeals against his three and a half year suspended sentence for violations of the Council’s planning and zoning regulations.

In his new job, the secretary general will be responsible for assisting the chairman of the Board of Directors, Joaquina Matos – president of Lagos Council – as well as directing and coordinating all the personnel and services of the association, running meetings and ‘developing projects of intermunicipal interest.’
