The Algarve municipalities of Castro Marim and Alcoutim officially are at maximum risk of fire, according to the Portuguese weather service.
The municipalities of Loulé, S. Brás de Alportel and Tavira, as well as the Alentejo municipalities of Almodôvar and Mértola, are at very high risk.
The IPMA added that at high risk, the third most serious on a scale of five, are nine further municipalities: Lagos, Portimão, Silves, Odemira, Castro Verde, Mação, Gavião and Nisa and Ródão in Castelo Branco.
Some municipalities in the northern and central interior and the northern Alentejo are at moderate risk and the rest of the country has a reduced risk of fire on a day when the IPMA forecast strong wind in the western coastal zone and uplands and a small increase in night time temperatures.
