PARIS, February 9, 2008 – President Nicolas Sarkozy is suing a French news
website for reporting he sent a text message to his ex-wife Cecilia offering
to call off his wedding to Carla Bruni if she took him back, his lawyer said.
In an article entitled "The obsession with Cecilia", the nouvelobs.com
website claimed on Wednesday that Sarkozy had written to Cecilia eight days
before his marriage to the 40-year-old Italian former supermodel on Saturday.
"If you come back, I’ll call it all off," the president is reported to have
told his ex-wife Cecilia Ciganer-Albeniz.
Sarkozy, 53, remarried less than four months after ending his stormy
11-year marriage to Cecilia, 50, with whom he has a young son, Louis. The
couple announced their divorce on October 18.
The French president has filed suit against the website for "falsification,
use of false documents and possession of stolen goods," his lawyer Thierry
Herzog said in a statement.
