Killer blaze in Paris home for disabled

PARIS, April 6 (AFP) – A young woman was killed and 20 people, six seriously, after a fire broke out Tuesday night at a home for the handicapped in the French capital, officials said.

More than 100 firefighters were called out to battle the blaze that broke out in a bedroom at the Maison Sainte Germaine in the south of the city.

The 20 people injured by smoke inhalation were hospitalised while the 80 other residents at facility were able to later return to rooms not damaged by the blaze.

Investigators said the fire appeared to be accidental.
