Gilberto Gil in ‘abolition’ concert at UNESCO Paris

PARIS, Nov 26 (AFP) – Gilberto Gil, Brazil’s famous singer and culture minister, is to give a December 3 concert at UNESCO’s Paris headquarters to mark the close of the International Year of the Struggle Against Slavery and its Abolition, the organisation said Friday.

The musician, who has been a UNESCO peace ambassador since 1999, will sing some of his biggest hits. His music includes elements of samba, bossa nova and salsa fused together with jazz and blues.

Other celebrities to take part in the a series of events for the same occasion will be US actor Danny Glover and Peruvian singer Susana Baca, who will attend a symposium on slavery.
