EDF’s first-half net profit nearly doubles

PARIS, Aug 31, 2006 (AFP) – The French energy group EDF reported Thursday that first-half net profit nearly doubled to EUR 4.14 billion from a year earlier, thanks to its international activities.

In the same period of 2005, EDF had a net profit of EUR 2.13 billion, the group said in a statement.

Electricité de France had announced earlier this month that revenues in the first six months of 2006 reached EUR 30.36 billion, up 20.5 percent from the year before.

The group’s results have increased “mainly due to international activities,” said the EDF chief executive, Pierre Gadonneix, in the statement.

EDF increased investment in production and networks in the first half by 14.4 percent to EUR 2.42 billion. Two thirds of the investments were made in France.
