Chirac and Schroeder to meet with Putin
MOSCOW, Aug 18 (AFP) - German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and French President Jacques Chirac will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at his Black Sea resort residence at the end of the month, Interfax quoted the top Kremlin spokesman as saying Wednesday.
The spokesman said the three leaders, who all opposed the US-led war in Iraq, would discuss “current international affairs,” Interfax reported.
He confirmed that the talks will be held in Sochi on August 30-31.
Schroeder and Putin are close friends, and the Russian president was the only national leader invited to the chancellor’s 60th birthday party in Hanover in April.
Meanwhile Russia and France have enjoyed historic ties, with their relations growing stronger in recent years despite irritation in Paris over the war in Chechnya.
