Australia's Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd will visit France next week to mark the annual ANZAC day commemoration of the war dead from his country and from New Zealand on a World War I battlefield.

The French foreign ministry said Rudd would visit the villages of Bullecourt and Villers-Bretonneux near the river Somme on Monday to honour the Australia and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers who fought there in 1918.

Rudd will be in the country for two days and will also meet French ministers to discuss major foreign policy issues while Paris holds the presidency of the G20 group of world powers, of which Australia is a member.
