PARIS, Dec 17 (AFP) – Britain’s Mike Golding won the Defi Atlantique single-handed yachting race from Brazil to France when he reached La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast on Wednesday.
Fellow Briton Alex Thomson, who last week set a 24-hour distance record of 466 miles for a single-hulled boat when he was leading the race, and Frenchman Vincent Riou were neck and neck for second.
The 43-year-old Golding, a former fireman from Southampton, completed the crossing in 16 days 18 hours and 24 minutes.
