SW France road kidnap girlfound alive; three men held

BORDEAUX, France, Feb 11 (AFP) – Police on Wednesday rescued a nine-year-old girl kidnapped the day before in western France after a major search that resulted in the arrest of three suspects, officers said.

The girl, Fanny Lafond, was found alive and in good health in a town some 15 kilometres (nine miles) from her family home in Jarnac, near Cognac in the Charente region, police said.

She was discovered after officers found the stolen car used in her abduction late Tuesday.

The alleged role of the three suspects, all believed to be men, was to be elucidated in a media briefing later Wednesday by the investigating prosecutor in the case, Christian Lagarde.

Witnesses to the kidnapping said they saw a man in his mid-20s grab the girl as she played on a child’s scooter near her home and bundle her into the trunk of the car before speeding off.
