United Kingdom Singer Pagny fined for French tax fraud

PARIS, Jan 19 (AFP) - One of France's most popular pop singers, Florent Pagny, was fined EUR 15,000 (USD 18,600) Monday and given a suspended prison sentence of six months after being convicted of tax fraud.
Pascal Negre, the head of Universal Music France who was accused of assisting Pagny, was found not guilty.
The 42 year-old singer was found to have under-reported earnings by the sum of EUR 540,000 in 1996 and 1997, and to have hidden assets – including Harley-Davidson motorbikes, expensive wines and artworks – that were inventoried for seizure by bailiffs last year.
