FOIX, France, Dec 17 (AFP) – Seven people were killed Wednesday when a French airforce plane crashed in a parachute training exercise in the Pyrenees mountains, police said.
The CASA transport aircraft came down in a remote area near the Pic de Pioulou mountain at around 10.30 am. Police said they had found two bodies. Three helicopters were searching the area.
President Jacques Chirac issued a statement extending his condolences to the families. “This accident is a tragic reminder of the tough demands of the military career and the risks that it incurs,” he said.
