Record EUR 33 million for French lottery winner

PARIS, April 15 (AFP) – One lucky winner scooped a record EUR 33 million (USD 39 million) in the Euro Millions lottery draw on Friday, with a winning ticket bought in France.

Since it was launched in February, the new European lottery, created by French (Francaise des Jeux), Spanish (Apuestas del Estado) and British (Camelot) national lottery companies, the previous biggest jackpot of EUR 25.5 million was won by a British woman last month.

In March, a Spanish man picked the necessary five main numbers and two “lucky star” numbers to win EUR 20 million.

Friday’s win was also a record for a lottery win in France, beating the FF 150 million (EUR 23 million) pocketed by a national Superloto winner in March 1997.
