Paris metro strike Friday

PARIS, March 24 (AFP) – The main union covering workers in the Paris metro said it has called a 24-hour strike in the subway network Friday to protest deteriorating working conditions.

The state company managing the metro, the RATP, confirmed the stoppage and said it would on Thursday inform the five million passengers that use the system every day of what disruptions they could expect.

The CGT union said the strike was meant to highlight salary, staffing and promotion problems. It called on the workers to stage a demonstration in front of the RATP headquarters to press for their demands to be met.
