PARIS, Feb 19 (AFP) – Air traffic controllers at Paris’s southern Orly airport voted Thursday to end a crippling strike after forcing the civil aviation authority to back away from a contested plan to change their duties.
Flights to and from the airport would get back to normal on Friday, after recovering from the disruptions that saw 60 percent of them cancelled since the strike began on Monday, a union representative, Christian Chardon, said.
Traffic at Paris’s main international airport of Roissy-Charles de Gaulle was operating as usual Thursday after two days of minor disruptions related to the Orly stoppage.
The 120 controllers at Orly voted to resume work after late-night talks with the civil aviation authority resulted in a project to consolidate air traffic control over the French capital was shelved, at least temporarily.
The state agency also agreed to consider improving facilities for the controllers at Orly and hire more staff for Roissy-Charles de Gaulle.
