Multiple shootings in France over the past decade:

– 2010: Police find all six members of a family dead in their house in the western region of Vendee. The father, a doctor, had apparently bludgeoned his four children to death, stabbed his wife and then hanged himself.

February 2012: In the northern town of Zuydcoote a man who has recently separated from his wife goes to the family home and stabs their three children to death before hanging himself.

September 5: Three members of a British-Iraqi family on holiday in the French Alps are found shot dead, along with a French cyclist who apparently stumbled across the crime scene. The couple’s two young daughters survive, one unhurt and the other with severe head injuries.
