A Moroccan children’s rights group will this week lodge a complaint in France after claims by a former government minister that another had sex with boys in Morocco, a lawyer said Saturday.
Two small French-based Moroccan rights groups said they would join the legal action in France against the unidentified alleged sex offender.
“The complaint will be lodged in Paris on Wednesday and our aim is to push the French justice system into a real investigation,” said Jean Chevais, a lawyer for Hands off My Children.
The group lodged a complaint in Morocco’s southern city of Marrakesh on Friday after the allegations were made by Luc Ferry, French education minister from 2002 to 2004, on French television on Monday.
Chevais said by lodging a complaint in France, the group wanted to put pressure on authorities to investigate quickly and not allow the case to be buried.
Police questioned Ferry on Friday over the allegations he made of molestation and a cover-up, which come after charges of attempted rape against the French head of the International Monetary Fund, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, in New York.
