Libya to complete French plane bomb cash April

CAIRO, March 10 (AFP) – Libya will complete in April the payment of compensation to the families of the victims of a French plane bombed in 1989, Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi’s son, Saif ul-Islam, said in comments published Wednesday.

“We have finalised the set-up of the (compensation) fund, the mechanism of payment and all legal matters. The payment will be completed in April,” he told the London-based Al-Hayat newspaper, received here.

The young Kadhafi gave the interview in Paris, where he had met on Monday with French President Jacques Chirac.

In January, his Kadhafi Foundation signed an agreement to compensate the families of the 170 victims of the UTA plane bombing over Niger, lifting the last obstacle to a normalisation of relations between Tripoli and Paris. Under the deal, Libya agreed to pay USD 1 million per victim.
