Jailed Jackal corrects paper over terror facts

PARIS, March 4 (AFP) – The convicted terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez – also known as Carlos – spoke from captivity Thursday to correct a newspaper account of his 1975 kidnapping of OPEC ministers in Vienna.

The Paris-based International Herald Tribune reported in an article on Algeria last month that the 11 ministers were taken from a “luxury hotel.”

But in a letter to the paper from Saint Maur prison, central France, Ramirez Sanchez wrote: “In fact we captured the ministers in conference at the extra-territorial OPEC headquarters and not at the Hilton Hotel where they were expected for a cocktail party.”

In 1997 a French court sentenced Ramirez Sanchez to life in prison for a triple murder carried out in Paris in 1975.
