PARIS, Jan 17 (AFP) – International Business Machines corporation is reviewing its European organisational structure with a view to slimming down management and reducing costs, the newspaper Les Echos reported Monday.
Half of the most highly paid jobs in the regional structure – which covers Europe, the Middle East and Africa – could be shed, the newpaper quoted unnamed IBM executives as saying.
Under plans being discussed, the regional management tier, employing 900 people in the La Defense district of Paris, would be slimmed down, according to Les Echos.
One proposal would reduce the five regional divisions to two, with one embracing Britain, France and Spain and the other centered on Germany.
Details of the reorganisation could be announced tomorrow alongside the tech giant’s 2004 results.
IBM declined to comment on the report.
