French water subsidiary in Bolivia dynamited

LA PAZ, March 21 (AFP) – The headquarters of a French company’s subsidiary in the Bolivian city of El Alto was targeted in a dynamite attack, causing some material damage but no injuries, the company and police said Monday.

Assailants planted the device at the entrance of the El Alto office of Aguas de Illimani, a subsidiary of the French company Suez. The small blast went off early Sunday.

Local protestors have demanded that the water company leave the region and complained about its tariffs. The company is holding talks with Bolivian authorities on leaving El Alto.
