PARIS, Feb 9 (AFP) – French teachers and researchers said Monday they would hold a national strike on March 12 to protest against government budget cut-backs in the education sector.
Four of the five teachers’ unions held a meeting to decide the strike, according to a joint statement.
“It’s our children’s future which is being threatened by the cut-backs as much as by the brutal recruitment choices being made,” the statement said, adding that teachers were finding their jobs increasingly precarious and uncertain because of a government plan to devolve education powers to regions.
