French sailors rescued in UK ‘ram zone’

LONDON, Jan 25 (AFP) – A French trawler sank off the southwest coast of England Sunday but its crew of five was rescued, coast guards said.

The five crew members of the Duguesclin were picked up by a Royal Navy helicopter from a life raft and flown to a British hospital.

The ship sank only 10 days after another French trawler, the Bugaled Breizh, went down off Lizard Point in southwestern England, killing five crew.

It was believed to have been hit by a container ship.

The latest incident happened about 50 kilometers (30 miles) off Falmouth, not far from the January 15 accident.
