CANNES, France, Jan 26 (AFP) – British rock legend Peter Gabriel, as well as Misa Watanabe, a longstanding figure in Japan’s music world, and Hungarian pianist Zoltan Kocsis, were honoured for their work in the field of arts by French Culture Minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon on Monday.

The French minister, attending the annual MIDEM trade fair gathering leaders of the world music industry, presented Gabriel, formerly of Genesis, with the insignia of Chevalier of Arts and Letters, commending him for his work as a musician, poet, writer and producer.

He praised his founding in 2000 of the European digital downloading platform OD2, as well as his work with the WOMAD festival (World of Music, Arts and Dance).

Watanabe, music industry personality and longtime president of the Music Publishers Association of Japan, was named Officer of Arts and Letters, and Kocsis presented with the insignia of Chevalier.
