BERLIN, March 24 (AFP) – France and Germany have drafted proposals to ease visa conditions for travel between Russia and the European Union, according to a German newspaper report Wednesday.
The Tagesspiegel daily said the main beneficiaries would be businessmen and other frequent travellers who would be given a visa valid for several years.
EU citizens going to Russia and Russians coming into the bloc would not pay tax on visas.
According to the daily, the document is significantly different to British and Irish proposals which would impose tougher conditions on Russians
A foreign ministry spokeswoman here refused to comment directly on what she said was “some paper or other circulating at the level of working groups.”
The Tagesspiegel said France and Germany also wanted an EU bureau to be set up in Moscow to improve relations between Russia and the European Union.
It would group officials from the European Commission and EU member states and could, among other tasks, seek to bolster anti-terrorism cooperation, the paper added.
