Ex-patient confesses to nurses’ murder in France

BORDEAUX, Feb 2 (AFP) – A man detained over the grisly murders of two female members of staff at a psychiatric hospital in the southern French town of Pau has confessed to police, investigators told AFP.

Romain Dupuy, a 21 year-old former patient at the hospital with a history of schizophrenia, told police he harboured a deep hatred of the medical profession, the Sud-Ouest daily newspaper reported Wednesday.

On December 18 the bodies of two night-duty nurses were found in a building at the hospital. Chantal Klimaszewski, 48, had been decapitated and her head placed on a television. Lucette Gariod, 40, had had her throat cut.

Dupuy was arrested on Saturday in the centre of Pau when police officers saw him smoking cannabis and asked for his identity papers. He was overpowered after producing a revolver.

DNA tests have revealed a match between Dupuy’s genetic code and samples found at the scene of the crime, police said.
