PARIS, Feb 4 (AFP) – French police are investigating a flight attendant’s fatal fall from an Air France plane at Paris’s Orly airport which occurred when a mobile stairway she was on was moved away from the aircraft door, officials said Friday.
The 35-year-old woman, a mother of two children, died of injuries sustained in the seven-metre (23-foot) drop to the tarmac, which happened Tuesday.
According to investigators, the driver of the stairway said he had received a green light from a flight attendant on the plane to remove the structure. As he did so, he saw another flight attendant fall to the ground.
Airport unions blamed the death on short-staffing of runway employees, but Air France issued a statement saying it was too early to draw conclusions until the investigation was completed.
The company expressed its “sadness” over the accident and said it would stand by the flight attendant’s family.
