Another day of French protests next Tuesday

PARIS, March 29, 2006 (AFP) – Unions and student groups opposing the French government’s youth jobs law on Wednesday announced a new day of national strikes and protests next Tuesday, union officials said.

Leaders of the student-union alliance were meeting a day after demonstrations brought more than a million people onto the streets against Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin’s First Employment Contract (CPE).

Villepin has resisted pressure to withdraw the measure, which makes it easier to hire and fire young people.
