Police say Ramadan fire at German mosque was arson

Aalen, Germany — A fire in a building where Muslims were reciting Ramadan prayers was arson, police in the southwestern German town of Aalen said Tuesday.

The mosque congregation was shocked but no one was hurt in Monday evening’s incident. Police are trying to discover who set fire to six plastic baskets of bread on the ground floor of the building during the prayers.

About 100 people were at prayer in the third story of the building, marking the end of the day’s Ramadan fasting. The mosque is run by Ditib, a foundation funded by Ankara for Turkish-speaking Muslims.

Police said they had very little evidence about the attack, so could not narrow down the motive yet.
