Hungarian confesses to axe murder of Germans

1 September 2005

BUDAPEST – Hungarian police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of a German couple in northwestern Hungary in late July, MTI news agency reported Thursday.

The bodies of the couple, who disappeared after trying to sell their property in Bony-Orkenypuszta, were found this week dumped in a well.

Police became suspicious during an interview with a young Hungarian couple who claimed to have bought the Germans’ property, a police spokesman told MTI.

The man subsequently broke down and led police to where he claimed to have dumped the bodies, the spokesman told MTI, adding that the suspect had confessed to strangling and axeing the victims to death.
