Germany’s Loew impressed by Euro final opponent Spain

27 June 2008

SWITZERLAND – Germany coach Joachim Loew said late Thursday he was impressed by Spain’s performance in a 3-0 beating of Russia which earned them a place in the Euro 2008 final with Germany.

"Spain had an impressive performance. They played on a very high level throughout the tournament and were very skilful," said Loew in the German team’s Euro camp in southern Switzerland.

Loew watched the game with other members of the coaching staff rather than making the trip to Vienna for a first-hand view. But chief scout Urs Siegenthaler was in the stadium to see who will play Germany in the Sunday final in Vienna.

"This will be a tough game," said left back Philipp Lahm, who was the hero in Germany’s 3-2 success over Turkey in the other semi-final on Wednesday with his 90th-minute winner.
