BERLIN – Germany’s Foreign Ministry confirmed Thursday that it had learned of the shooting death of a German tourist in the Omani capital of Muscat, but said the motives behind the killing were not yet known.
A ministry spokesman said the German embassy in Muscat was looking into the case, but gave no further details. It was not known whether the killing had a criminal or terrorist background.
The unidentified German tourist was found shot dead on Monday afternoon, according to European diplomats in the Omani capital.
The newspaper Al-Sharq Al-Awsa had reported Thursday that a British man had been shot at under similar circumstances in Muscat in October.
So far, Oman has not seen any terror attacks against foreigners from the West.
